District Announcements
Chatham County Schools will operate on a three-hour delay for students and a two-hour delay for staff on Friday, March 6, 2015. Freezing temperatures and wet roads, especially bridges and overpasses are of particular concern. Our first buses begin routes just after 5 AM and we want to give our drivers the benefit of sunlight. Stay safe!
Science Olympians
Fifteen Horton students competed in the Science Olympiad events at Campbell University last week. Of the 15 students competing, eight earned medals with their "design and build" event: Nathan Terrel, Konrad Feher, Jesenia Schwankl, Nicole Feher, Meredith Clouse, Riley Crisp, Emily Taylor, and Anna Marie Trotter. Special mention of  Jesenia, Riley, and Meredith for their first- place showing of "Picture This." Science Olympiad is  a STEM extra-curricular activity that showcases "design and build" events along with tested knowledge based on Meteorology and Anatomy. Thanks to our participating students and Mr. Walgate, the club sponsor and 8th grade science teacher at Horton for representing Chatham County in this regional event.

Donors Choose
Donorschoose.org is a great way to participate in education projects at  our school.  If you know of someone that might  like to donate,  please send them this link and the instructions on how to do so. You might also like to share this information on your Facebook account.  We have several great ideas from our teachers on there now--
"iPads in the Art Room"
 "Making Stewards of our Earth"
2. In the box for zip code put 27312
3. Look for the ones from Horton Middle School "currently there are 2 on the front page"
Labels for Education
What a wonderful opportunity to earn supplies for our school using the labels from every day products that you purchase for family use! All it takes is a little effort to remove the UPC label or provide the cap imprinted with the UPC label. This would be a great service project for your children. Send in your labels or caps from the following products. Once again, thank you for your support!
Volunteer your Time
Help yourself and Horton this school year!
Spend some volunteer time at the PTSA Thrift Shop.
Rising 7th graders can volunteer 100 thrift store hours for a FREE Washington DC trip in the 8th grade. 7th Graders can start earning hours as of July 1, 2014 towards their trip.
You can volunteer an additional 100 hours for a parent/guardian to attend the trip also.
ALL volunteers can pick whom your volunteer hours will benefit: your teacher, a club, athletics, the DC trip, the media center.....
You can volunteer by emptying a drop box or attending a work group.
You get to double your Thrift Shop volunteer hours during the summer!
